As promised folks, this week I’ll list our suppliers that we used for the Big Day and what they did for us. All our suppliers were extremely professional and got the job done! That’s exactly what you need – people who know what they’re doing and won’t need to be babysat. We spent a lot of time going through different suppliers offerings. Ultimately we went with the people who were the best fit for the couples Big Day!

Cavan Marquees – Cavan
Patrick & his team went above and beyond as he had to make a few site visits to us to sort out the layout. We had to do a lot of work to level the ground out the side of the shed so that we wouldn’t need a step ladder to get into the bar. We chose to have a bare wooden floor and the sides and roof fully lined. The marquee came with 2 chandeliers with dimmer switches (to get the romantic feel going later on), an AC/heating unit (‘cos you just never know in Ireland!), full lining, and the window style sides.
Higgins Furniture Hire – Kildare
Mary & Martin are a great duo and were extremely efficient in coming back to me with my MANY amendments to our hire order! WE got trestle tables, white folding chairs, small drinks tables, small table cloths, room separators to mark an area for the caterers in the shed and high stools for the bar.
Soundworks – Dublin
The lads in Soundworks were excellent to deal with, they just arrived and set up and collected 3 days later, no problem. The system worked perfectly and they didn’t even charge for the extra day over the weekend!
Mr. Whippy – Dublin
Ciaran found the house no problem and the ice cream was DELICIOUS! This was an absolute hit with all the guests especially our Dad who is an ice cream connoisseur
Fernwood Flowers – Meath
Brigid was a gem of a find in our local town! She followed the brief to a T and all the flowers & greenery added just another level of pretty to the Big Day.
Turning Tables Dining – Kildare
Fran, Fergal & the whole team were highly organised and professional and even mopped the kitchen floor before they left! The food was a winner with everyone and we are still getting compliments on it 2 weeks later. They also provided plates & cutlery for the Big Day as I wouldn’t have been able to turn around items needed for the barbeque the following day.
Event Waiter – Kildare
The staff that Kevin sent were all excellent and knew exactly what to do with not much guidance from us. We did a brief run through as they all arrived and they just got to work. No one was with an empty glass all day!
Harpist – Mayo
Brenda Grealis is very well known in wedding supplier circles and she did a great job on the day! The music complemented the barn ceremony very well and she didn’t even need a power point in the end as the acoustics were so lovely.
Weddings By Jason – Louth
Jason McCarthy is a documentary style photographer and followed the brief of “lots of photos of everyone!”. The images we have gotten back are gorgeous and we barely knew he was there snapping away all afternoon.
Spiritualist Union of Ireland – Nationwide
John our celebrant created a beautiful and personal ceremony even though he only met the Groom on the day they Happy Couple tied the knot. John is just one of several solemnisers they have on their books so lots of people to choose from if you book your date early enough. The ceremony was completely personalised by the Happy Couple and they could leave in or take out pretty much any bit they wanted under John’s guidance.
The Dish Dolly – Nationwide
Last but not least… Me! I provided the glassware, china cups and cake stands for the Big Day and the plates and glassware for the barbeque the following day. I must say I was just a delight to work with – although I’m still tidying my storage shed after it!
Never underestimate the power of having a good rapport with your big suppliers. At the end of the day, if you can’t imagine hanging out with them for a coffee do you really think you can work with them for months? You need someone who not only understands the brief, but someone who completely gets the way you want things to turn out.
The biggest learning I made in our research of our suppliers is that not always are the most expensive ones the best fit for your event. Definitely shop around and make sure you are getting exactly what you want for a fair deal. You absolutely should start looking for suppliers at the very start of your planning process and to really do your research.
I hope that you are all enjoying learning about our DIY Wedding, please do spread the word about my little business by sharing & commenting on social and sending the blog link to friends and family. Who knows – the next wedding you are at could be managed by The Dish Dolly!
Happy planning folks,
