An Expert’s Advice: Should I consider an alternative wedding?

What a week this has been for The Dish Dolly! The micro-wedding idea has taken off and I have found myself on the radio, in print and enquiries are coming through my website quicker than I can keep up with! So I wanted to reach out to everyone and see how I can help with your situation. Listening to the LMFM podcast with Sinéad Brassil that I was interviewed on Thursday 21st May may be of help to those considering changing their plans – listen here.

What if I have had to postpone my Big Wedding but want to go ahead with my ceremony?

This is an ideal opportunity to just get married and mark the day with an intimate evening with your family or closest friends. Check in with your priest or celebrant and make sure they are happy to go ahead with just you two and your witnesses in the church or registry office. If you are engaged and reassessing your whole wedding plan have a look at OPW sites across the country that offer intimate civil cermony spaces for something completely different . Have a read of my article in The Wedding Journal Site here to read a bit more on this.

Will my venue let me do a Micro-Wedding?

This will be a case by case basis depending on where you gave booked your wedding. Bear in mind that a venue is still a business and they have based revenues on their minimum number you are contracted to. It may not be feasible for the venue to allow an event of 20 people to go ahead and the best option may be to postpone. But you can still mark your original day!

What exactly is a Micro-Wedding and will it be for me?

A micro-wedding usually has 20 or less guests in attendance and your garden or home is usually the ideal space for this. If you still want the Big Party next year then scale this event back to your ceremony and an evening meal or drinks with family in the garden. The Dish Dolly has packages starting from €800 for 10 guests and that includes:

  • All tableware, crockery, glassware for your dining option
  • Beautiful Vintage china tea sets & cake stands for dessert
  • Table lanterns, candles & decor for centrepieces
  • Posies & greenery for your tables from Fernwood Flowers
  • Garden decor such as bunting & festival style lighting
  • Lawn Games for added fun!
  • Options for extra set up like Cocktail Table, Dessert Table, Buffet set up

The Dish Dolly has worked hard over the years building relationships with excellent wedding suppliers. I have secured special packages from a number of these friends that are available exclusively through the Dish Dolly planning service. I will coordinate on your behalf to organise your catering, photography, flowers & marquee hire.

How much will a Micro-Wedding cost?

There are a few different ways to build your intimate wedding. If you are planning on the big party next year I can arrange a simple decor set up in the back garden and supply glassware for a cocktail party. For 10 people this would work out at about €500 + delivery

If you want to make this your full wedding event – fantastic! For catering, marquee, The Dish Dolly hire items & full planning service a starting price for 20 guests would be around €2,500 + delivery.

(price depends on what items are required, type of catering and where I will be delivering to – contact me on for a full quote)

Do I need a massive house & a garden?

Not necessarily! I have set up normal sized terraced houses for Communions, birthdays & dinner parties – I will work with your space and make sure we optimise every nook & cranny to be able to host your 10 or 20 people comfortably. I will do a video call with you once we have gone through the order process and you can give me a live tour of the space you are using. I will also ask for photos and if possible do a pre-event visit if you live in the Leinster region.

Will you adhere to social distancing in my home?

Yes of course! I will do everything online until the day itself and then will adhere to strict guidelines to ensure the safety of you, your guests and me. I will have minimal contact with you onsite and will be fully masked & gloves for the duration of the set up in your home. Most micro-weddings will take place from Phase 4 however I will gladly drop all hire items to you so that you can set these up yourself before this time.
